June Topic: Playing catch-up managing cyber risk at small/mid-sized agencies
June 23, 2026 2:00 pm
June’s topic and guest came straight from a convo at PRIMA 26: What it’s like playing catchup on cyber risk at a mid-sized county. Gavin’s got an interesting background – before he was in risk management, he was an IT and cyber consultant. He got hired in Laramie County in part because of that experience, because like most small/mid-sized agencies, they needed to play catch-up in that increasingly important risk area. As it turns out, large cities get most of the attention, but smaller cities and counties are often the most frequently targeted agencies, in part because hackers know they’re playing catch-up. Gavin has a lot of perspective on what it’s like joining an org that needs to play a little bit of catch-up, and how risk and IT can collaborate more smoothly and more strategically.
